The Dhothi is made out of karunganni cotton, cultivated in Dindugal Dt of Tamilnadu, processed and spun by Ambar charka and then the handspun yarn is woven in Kannur (the land of looms and lores) of kerala, for getting it woven into the Mundu. As the city of Kannur is famous for weaving thicker count yarn, the desi cotton yarn, which is basically thicker (lower count yarn) is woven into mundu of excellent finishing, by the handloom weavers.
